The lights in Duda Park are proving to be a delight to people young and old and every age in between. The displays are lighted on Friday, Saturday and Sunday from 5 to 8 p.m. This coming weekend will be final weekend of the walk-thru display, so don't delay. It's worth the trip....

Billy "Bill" Dean Probst, 81, of Mt. Olive, Ill., died on Sunday, Dec. 4, 2022, at Stillwater Senior Living in Edwardsville. He was born in Staunton on Oct. 3, 1941, the son of William Probst and Marie Louise (Stieglitz) Probst. Bill married Judy Dittmaier on May 25, 1963. She preceded him in death on Dec. 21, 2018. The new steeple for First Methodist Church in Staunton was hoisted into place on Monday, Aug. 29, under the supervision of Opel Construction Co. of Worden. The crane was provided by Ernest Berg of Staunton. The steeple was part of a remodeling project. In addition to the steeple, the church added a new front entrance and foyer covered with brick veneer. The Staunton High School girls basketball team were off to an impressive start on their 2022-23 season, opening with 7 wins in a row. The Lady Bulldogs started on Nov. 14 with the 61-28 win over Northwestern. On Nov.15 they defeated Wesclin 65 - 31; defeated Mt. The Illinois Commerce Commission has announced a new area code is coming to southern Illinois. The new 730 area code will “overlay” the existing 618 area code to address the depletion of prefixes available for assignment within the region.
