I beg to differ. Parenting is a gift. It is wonderful. It is one of the very best things that has happened (so far) in my life. F...

  • Make Your Own Luck

    Nov 15, 2023

By Bryan Golden What exactly is luck? Why do some people appear to be luckier than others? Is luck a question of chance, fate, or are there things you can do to improve your luck? Actually, being lucky isn't just a matter of luck at all. Luck is a combination of attitude, mental orientation, preparation, and opportunity. Typically, lucky people have an approach of possibility whereas unlucky people have a mindset of impossibility. Those with consistent bad luck expect to have bad luck. They advertise their expectations with statements such as,...

We wish that we could hear your voice and hug you closely too. The years you were with us was so precious and too few for our hearts now ache with longing for more time to spend with you. One day, we’ll get to hold you close. As we join hands abo...

Meaning, without pollinators, there would be no food. If you have enjoyed an apple this fall or a tomato this summer, thank a bee. Honeybees are the most recognized pollinators, but insects like moths, butterflies, wasps, beetles, and flies are also frequent pollinators. There are many species of native bees in Ill. that are important to the ecosystem. Global...

  • Staunton and Gillespie football game to celebrate 100 years

    Nov 15, 2023

By Tom Emery No high school football game was ever quite like this one. A century later, the thought of it still boggles the mind, and captures the imagination. Nov. 24, marks 100 years since Staunton beat Gillespie 233-0, setting multiple state scoring records that still stand. The outcome of the game attracted national attention and set southern Macoupin County buzzing, even overshadowing an NFL exhibition game in the area a few days later. Oddly, there is debate now about some of the basic aspects of the game. But a century later, the towns...
