  • Baseball/softball scoreboards to be erected at city fields

    By Kelly Costa The Staunton City Council voted on Monday night to approve the purchase of two scoreboards for the city's baseball/softball fields. The scoreboards will be purchased from Nevco at a total cost of $10,410. The scoreboards are 10 feet wide, 4 feet tall, and 8 inches deep. They will feature amber and red digits and will have wireless handheld controls along with in-board wireless receiver kits. The scoreboards have a five-year warranty.   • Two new buses on the way; SFPD will use scrap bus

    During the Staunton Board of Education meeting held on Tuesday night, Jan. 17, Brett Allen, the Staunton School District superintendent, stated that the school district is slated to receive delivery of two buses by the end of the month from Midwest Transit that were approved for purchase last fiscal year. Once necessary radios have been installed, these buses will be rotated into the regular route fleet for daily use.     John Harold Klekamp, 76, a well-known area resident of rural Litchfield died Jan. 19, 2023, at Elevate Care Chicago North in Chicago due to a fall resulting in a traumatic brain injury. John was born July 21, 1946, a son of the late Harold and Helen (Lueneman) Klekamp. John was baptized in St. John's Lutheran Church in Litchfield.     Kenneth Charles Kay, 87, of Benld, Ill., died peacefully at home on Wednesday, Jan. 18, 2023. He was born in 1935 in Racine, Wis., to Elwood and Mary (Trione) Kay. He grew up in East St. Louis, until his family moved to Hollywood Heights. Kenneth graduated from Collinsville High School in 1952 and went on to attend the University of Illinois where he earned a bachelor's degree in music education.     The Staunton girls were scheduled to play the winner of Monday's (Jan. 16) North Mac vs. Mt. Olive game at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 17, in the Macoupin County Tournament. North Mac defeated Mt.
