Illinois State Police reported that two people were killed in a crash that occurred at the intersection of State Route 4 and State Route 140 in rural Worden on Wednesday, Oct. 5. This is the intersection where Poor Boy Portable Buildings is located. by Kelly Costa The first reading was given of an ordinance declaring real property on Union Street as surplus property during the Staunton City Council meeting on Monday night. The property is near other residential properties located off Union Street and is owned by the city. The city has found that the real estate is no longer necessary or profitable to own, so the council feels it is in their best interests to declare the property as surplus and advertise for bids to sell it. The Tori Carroll Memorial 5K raised $15,000 this year to be donated to the Staunton Community Unit School District. The last two years the money raised by Tori's memorial 5K has been allotted for the resurfacing of the multipurpose floor. The city of Staunton is reminding residents that daily fall yard waste burning hours will be in effect Oct. 15 through Dec. 15 from sunrise to sunset. The city asks that residents follow these rules: • Do not burn during a wind advisory; • Someone 18 or older must be in attendance of the fire; • No burning on city streets; • No burning within 25 feet of a structure; • Burning in ditches is allowed, but remaining debris/ashes must be removed. Robert D. Bruhn, 71, of rural Bunker Hill, Ill., died on Monday, Sept. 26, 2022, at his residence. He was born July 25, 1951, in Litchfield, the son of the late Harry E. and Velma (Pike) Bruhn. Melissa Ann Schrumpf, 55, of New Douglas, Ill., died Tuesday, Oct. 4, 2022, at her residence. She was born on Feb. 16, 1967, in Taylorville, a daughter of the late DeWayne and Mary (Linton) Maples. She married Ronald Schrumpf Jr. on June 20, 1992, in Grantfork, and he survives.
