    Issue of Sept. 30, 1998 Megan Sievers was crowned Homecoming Queen at Staunton High School. She was escorted by Ben Watters. Lightning was the probable cause of a fire at 224 East Main Street in Staunton on Friday. The home was occupied by one female resident who escaped and was transported to Community Memorial Hospital for evaluation. Michelle Emmons and Daniel Russell were married May 16 in Staunton.     The Illinois Coalition Against Domestic Violence (ICADV) has released its annual Domestic Violence Homicide Report, covering calendar year 2022. ICADV reports 57 people died in 45 separate incidents. Of those deaths, one-third were 17 years of age or younger. The eldest victim was 79. Seven of the death events ended with the perpetrator committing suicide. The most common means of death was by firearms.     The Staunton High School volleyball team hosted a Volley for the Cure game on Thursday, Sept. 28, to raise awareness for ALS in honor of Cheryl Whitten of Hillsboro. Whitten's granddaughter, Kinslee Maedge, is a member of the team, and Whitten can often be found at games cheering on the Lady Bulldogs.
