The Illinois State Fair has released estimated attendance totals for 2022. Over 636,700 visitors walked through the gates this year making it the highest attended fair since industry attendance calculation was put into effect, beating previous records. Weekend attendance during the fair saw an increase of nearly 95,000 people over 2021. The high attendance numbers are also reflected by the over $6.4 million in estimated revenue. The Staunton boys' soccer team had another busy week this week with four games in six days. The first two were at home against Pleasant Plains and Hillsboro, and the latter two were on the road at North Mac and Breese Central. Both the Hillsboro and the North Mac games were South Central Conference games. Staunton lost their Homecoming game to Carlinville 34 - 21 Friday night, Sept. 23. But - the Bulldogs gave their fans an exciting come back game after going down 21 points. A completed pass to Cody Kapp followed by a Jacob Dillon run gave them a first & 10 on the 24. But a holding penalty put them back to 2nd & 20 when Carlinville intercepted a Bulldog pass. After a loss to Breese Mater Dei on Sept. 13, the Lady Bulldogs got back on their winning streak, winning at Pana and at Vandalia. Staunton defeated the Pana Panthers 2-0 in sets of 25-12 and 25-13 on Sept. 15. Haris Legendre led the team in kills with 17; Legendre and Taylor Nolan each had one block. The Staunton Country Club Women's Thursday League had a beautiful fall day for golfing. We will continue our league through Thursday, Oct. 12. The boys and girls golf teams both won their Senior Night games on Monday, Sept. 19, at Timber Lakes. There are still games left on their schedule, however this was the last home game for the seniors. Staunton seniors are Luke DeWitt, Luke Meyer, Adam Overby and Emma Tjaden.
