    By Kelly Costa During Monday night’s city council meeting, the council approved Trick-or-Treat days and hours in Staunton on Oct. 30 and 31 from dusk to 9 p.m. on both nights. The council also received a letter from the Staunton Lions Club regarding the upcoming Halloween Parade. The plan is to have the parade on Sunday, Oct. 30, at 6 p.m. with Monday, Oct. 31 as the rain date.   • St. Michael's Dinner and Country Store

    St. Michael’s parish in Staunton will host their Chicken Dinner and Country Store from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the parish gymnasium, 419 E. Main Street in Staunton on Sunday, Oct. 2. The dinner menu includes one-half fried chicken, cole slaw, mashed potatoes with gravy, green beans, applesauce, bread and butter and pie.   • New city park being planned

    The city of Staunton is in the early planning stages of developing a new community park on East Mill Street. The 50-foot by 119-foot lot is the former location of the Baby Bull tavern. The city condemned the building, and it has since been razed. The city is pursuing a grant from the Illinois Department of Natural Resources.     The parade was part of a week of Homecoming festivi- ties that began with the play and crowning of SHS Homecoming Queen Samantha Schnefke and Homecoming King Joseph Best. Spirit Week included dress- up days (Adam Sandler Day, Jersey Day, Letter Day, Celeb- rity Day and Red and White Day/Toga Day) plus decorating the hallways of the school.     Reinhard John Schuster,79, Staunton, Ill., died Thursday, Sept. 22, at St. Luke’s Hospital in Chesterfield, Mo. He was born on July 16, 1943, in Romania, the son of the late Johann and Susanna (Klein) Schuster. He married LaVerne Ahne, and she survives. He was employed as a Federal Special Agent U.S. Treasury and later became an investigator for the State of Illinois. He was a veteran.     Helen Irene McKechan, 96, of Gillespie, Ill., died in St. Peters, Mo., on Thursday, Sept. 22, 2022. She was born March 8, 1926, in Benld to Sylvester and Julia (Onesky) Koschak. She married John B. McKechan in Chicago in October of 1957. He preceded her in death on Nov. 8, 1998. She was retired after working as an administrative assistant for the State of Illinois Department of Agriculture. Helen liked to crochet.     Dorothy M. Bertagnolli, nee Bahn, 96, of Highland, Ind., formerly of Staunton, Ill., died Saturday, Sept. 17, 2022. She was a daughter of the late Joseph and Gertrude Bahn of Staunton. She married Bruno Bertagnolli, and he preceded her in death. Her motto in life was “Faith, Family and Friends.” She attended Webster College in St. Louis, Mo., taught at St. Mary’s in Griffith and then assisted Dr. Joseph Siekierski.
