By Kelly Costa During Monday night’s city council meeting, the city council approved the authority of the city to apply for the Safe Routes to School grant application and authorized Mayor Neuhaus to execute all necessary documents associated with the grant application. This is a federal grant that will be used to place sidewalks from Hardees down Deneen Street. The purpose is for the students to have a safe path from home to school. Caldieraro Larry "Coach Cal" Caldieraro Jr., 57, of Staunton, Ill., passed away Monday, Sept. 18, 2023, at Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, Mo. State Senator Doris Turner is encouraging all eligible people to apply to this year's Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program to help with utility costs. To the editor: We have recently gained a new appreciation for Staunton and St. John's Hospitals and their dedicated staff. On the evening of Sunday, September 17th, Joan and I went to bed at 10 pm. I noticed a discomfort in my left shoulder. It was a dull, pain. It was not intense pain, but it was enough to keep me from going to sleep. Blackburn College has been awarded a $4.8 million grant from the Illinois Department of Commerce & Economic Opportunity.
