The City of Staunton will host their first ever Strassenfest this Saturday, Sept. 17, right on Staunton’s Main Street. By Kelly Costa During Monday night’s city council meeting, Alderman Rick Johnson announced that city officials will be walking door to door in Ward 3 collecting water grant information. The state of Illinois requires a minimum response rate of 80 percent to qualify for the grant. The city is asking for help by answering the door and providing the limited information requested. St. Paul United Church of Christ, located at the corner of Union and Mill streets, will host a pet blessing on Saturday, Sept. 17, during the flea market from 9 to 10 a.m. Pets of all kinds are welcome and must be leashed or in a carrier. Tracey Lynn Yaeger Boyd, 61, of Port Orchard, Wash., formerly of Staunton, Ill., died at St. Michael Medical Center in Silverdale, Wash., on Tuesday, Aug. 23, 2022. She was born Dec. 3, 1960, in Staunton, Ill., the daughter of Joan (Butler) Yaeger and the late Richard Yaeger. She married Gerald Boyd, and he survives. Carolyn Frances Kohlmeier, nee Hochmuth, 82, of Belleville, Ill., died Friday, Sept. 2, 2022, at her residence. She was born July 30, 1940, to Herman and Helen (Wray) Hochmuth. She married Roy Kohlmeier on May 20, 1961, and he preceded her in death on July 26, 2000. Carolyn had retired from Scott Credit Union. Terry Mosser, 73, of Staunton, Ill., died on Saturday, Sept. 3, 2022, at Community Hospital of Staunton. Born in Alton on Sept. 22, 1948, Terry was the son of Carl and Selma (Schnaare) Mosser. Terry graduated from Staunton High School in 1966 and then attended SIUE. Until 1969, Terry lived and worked in St. Louis teaching private piano lessons and playing piano at bar mitzvahs, weddings and funerals. Melvina Lorriane Knetzer, 90, of Gillespie, Ill., died at her residence on Monday, Sept. 5, 2022. She was born Jan. 4, 1932, in Virden to Melvin and Rozzella Friend Robinson. She married Joseph Knetzer on March 19, 1948, in Carlinville. He preceded her in death on March 1, 2017. She was a hairdresser. Richard Ray Katich, 76, of Gillespie, Ill., died at Heritage Health of Gillespie on Wednesday, Sept. 7, 2022. He was born Dec. 1, 1945, in Litchfield, to John and Bessie Nitz Katich. He married Renee DeMartini on July 20, 1989, in Memphis, Tenn. She survives. He was a grain and livestock farmer. He was a member of the U.S. Army National Guard. Claudell Faye Warren, 87, of Livingston, Ill., died on Friday, Sept. 9, 2022, at Hitz Memorial Home in Alhambra. She was born on June 24, 1935, in Oxly, Mo., the daughter of James and Hilda (Gayle) Knotts. She married Robert E. Warren on Aug. 19, 1950. He preceded her in death on April 23, 2011. Timothy Dove Cruthis, 87, of Sorento, Ill., died on Wednesday, Sept. 7, 2022, at Hillsboro Area Hospital. Tim was a cancer fighter, having fought courageously for over 18 years. Tim was born Nov. 20, 1934, in Sorento, the son of Elmer and Mary (Dove) Cruthis. He married Carlene Harmer on June 25, 1953, at the Assembly of God in Sorento. Virgil L. Jones, Jr., 56, of Staunton, Ill., died at his residence on Sunday, Sept. 4. He was born Oct. 15, 1965, in St. Louis, Mo., the son of Victoria Mae (Euler) Jones and the late Virgil Leo Jones. Virgil worked as a laborer. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1984 to 1986. James Robert Dannis, 54, of Mt. Olive, Ill., died at his home on Thursday, Sept. 8, 2022. He was born on Sept. 26, 1967, in Litchfield, the son of Robert James and Jacqueline (Puckett) Dannis. Raymond and Anita Duda of Staunton celebrated their 64th wedding anniversary yesterday. They were married on Sept. 13, 1958, in Riverside California.There was no formal celebration. Ray returned to Staunton with his new wife from California after his tour in the Marines ended. Thursday, Oct. 18, 1990 -- Hospital employees Funfest -- On October 3rd, the Employee Activities Committee held a Funfest at the hospital. Drawings were held every hour and prizes, which were donated by area businesses, were given to the lucky winners.
