    Southern Illinois Dressage Classic was held in DuQuoin on Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 9 & 10. Avery Donahue, 8 years old, of New Douglas was one of the participants from Brier Bank Equestrian Farm in Marine to compete in Levels A & B Dressage Competitions. During the two day competition, Avery and her horse “Pache” won three first place Blue Ribbons and one 4th place Purple Ribbon.     After competing in a neutral tournament the first week-end of September, the Lady Bulldogs volleyball team had a record of 7-3. On Sept. 1, in the first match of the tournament, Staunton lost to Columbia, 0-2. They came back from that loss and defeated Highland 2-0.     On Tuesday evening, Aug. 5, the Bulldogs hosted a match at Timberlakes. The boys golf teams played the back nine while the girls teams played the front nine. The boys team added three more wins to their record by beating Carlinville, Southwestern and Pana. Broc Best was team medalist for the Bulldogs with a 40.     On Sunday, Aug. 27, 4-H Shooting Sports members participated in the 9th annual 4-H Fall Classic at Brittany Shooting Park in Bunker Hill. 4-H members from the Jersey, Macoupin, and Montgomery Counties competed in the shooting disciplines of archery, air rifle, .22 rifle, and shotgun.     It was perfect golf weather this past Thursday for the SCC. The course was in great shape and we had a wonderful time golfing. The low gross was the team of Kim Meyer and Rosemarie Pickerill (39). The low net was Sue Stiegemeier, Karen Crosslin and Martha Riley (19). They also had low putts (12). We enjoyed a great lunch together. Next week we will tee off at 9:00 am. The following week (21st) we will be off due to preparations for the "Mother Road Music Festival and Car Show) on the 23rd.   • 'No set prices' at Worden book fair

    .The Worden Public Library District will hold its annual Book Fair on Saturday, Sept. 16, from 8 a.m. to noon. Hundreds of fiction and nonfiction books, as well as DVDs, will be available. The fair will be located in the shaded area behind the library. This year we will again have no set prices for items. Customers may take as many items as they want and give donations to the library for whatever amounts they choose. Proceeds from the fair will be used to purchase supplies and books for the library.
