    The Sports Boosters are sponsoring a contest for all Staunton businesses to show their school spirit by decorating their storefronts, windows, and/or doors in honor of SHS Homecoming, which is the week of Sept. 18-23. To participate, businesses must by decorated no later than noon, Sept. 20.     Gean B. Gregory, 79, of Alhambra, Ill., formerly of Staunton, died Saturday, Sept. 9, 2023, at Troy. He was born on Monday, May 29, 1944, in Mangum, Okla., the son of Connie and Helen Gregory. On June 20, 1969, he married Eleanor L. Gregory nee Christin, who survives. Gean was drafted by the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. During his military time he served as a medic in Auxburg and Berlin, Germany, where part of his role was aiding in relief efforts following a devastating earthquake. She was born on Dec. 20, 1942, in St. Louis, Mo., the daughter of Jasper and Myrtle (Ross) Campbell. She married Donald Stein, and he predeceased her. Betty was a retired respiratory therapist. She enjoyed reading, shopping for antiques, and spending time with her family. He was born June 3, 1949, in Litchfield to William Henry Boden and Audrey Vaughn Boden. He married Betty Lou Maxeiner on Oct. 8, 1975, in Carlinville, and she survives. She was born April 27, 1935, in West Prairie, Ill., the daughter of the late Benjamin Harrison and Laura Elizabeth (Swank) Sawyer. She married Donald Douglas Brown on Nov. 24, 1951, at the Christian Church in Gillespie, and he survives. Lee was employed as a nurses aide/respiratory therapy aide at Community Memorial Hospital in Staunton for many years.     Vernon F. "Blote" Blotevogel, 91, of Worden, Ill., died on Tuesday, Sept. 5, 2023, at The Glenwood in Staunton. He was born March 31, 1932, in Worden, the son of the late George and Bertha (Pieper) Blotevogel. He married Lois A. Brakhane, and she preceded him in death on May 20, 1987. He later married Brigitte "Barb" Matzat, and she survives. Vernon was an operator at Shell Oil in Roxana for many years. He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1952 to 1956 during the Korean War era.
