The Staunton boys’ soccer team started week two of the season with a 2-1 record and high hopes to keep a good thing going. Unfortunately, the Bulldogs faced some adversity throughout the week in the form of injury, COVID quarantines, and unavoidable commitments which forced a few players to miss games. The Staunton High School boys golf team defeated Greenville 158 - 184 in a match at Timber Lakes on Monday, Aug. 29. Preston Denney was match medalist with his round of 35 on the par 36 course. Other Staunton scores were Broc Best 37, Luke Goldasich 43, Luke Meyer and Adam Overby both shot 44s. This match improved the team’s season record to 11-2....
It was a wonderful day for golfing for the Staunton Country Club Women's Thursday Golf League. The low gross was the team of Sue Stiegemeier and Linda Rohe. They also had low putts of 8 and a chip-in on #3 and #5. The low net was the team of Barb Augustine and Denise Hemphill. We will continue teeing off at 9 a.m. Flag Day is coming right up, Sept. 15. On Sunday, August 28, 4-H Shooting Sports members participated in the eighth annual 4-H Fall Classic at Brittany Shooting Park in Bunker Hill. 4-H members from the Jersey, Macoupin, and Montgomery Counties competed in the shooting disciplines of archery, air rifle, .22 rifle, and shotgun.
