Dillard J. Dehart, Jr., 66, of Staunton, was sentenced by a Macoupin County jury and found guilty of one count of criminal sexual assault, a Class 1 felony. Dehart is scheduled to be sentenced Oct. 4. The two-day jury trial happened Monday, Aug. 21 and didn't get to a jury verdict in part due to the amount of witnesses that were called to the stand. The Staunton Board of Education held their monthly meeting on Aug. 21, and approved the purchase of two used school buses with air conditioning from Midwest Transit Equipment in the amount of $197,342. The buses are in good condition and have low mileage. With this addition in transportation, the board approved a Multi-District Shared Transportation Agreement for the current school year with Gillespie and Mount Olive School Districts. Lloyd J. "Pinky" Moreland Jr., 82, of rural Staunton, Ill., formerly of Livingston, died with his daughter by his side on Monday, Aug. 21, 2023, at Anderson Hospital in Maryville. He was born April 13, 1941, at his aunt and uncles’s home in Germantown, the son of the late Lloyd “Muggs” Moreland Sr. and the late Pansy (Steward) Moreland. He married Joyce Haas on July 3, 1959, in East St. Louis, and she preceded him in death on Aug. 27, 2005. Emma Lena (Parola) Vlasich, 102, of Gillespie, Ill., died at Gillespie Health and Rehab Center in Gillespie on Sunday, Aug. 13, 2023. She was born Sept. 13, 1920, in Taylor Springs to James and Maddalena (Davito) Parola. She married Henry Vlasich on Oct. 13, 1940. He preceded her in death on Nov. 15, 2004. She was retired after having been a legal secretary and a secretary for SS Simon and Jude Church in Gillespie. She was a devout Catholic and practiced her religion faithfully. Marilyn Lee Brown, 88, of Staunton, Ill., died on Friday, Aug. 18, 2023, at Anderson Hospital in Maryville. She was born April 27, 1935, in West Prairie, Ill., the daughter of the late Benjamin Harrison and Laura Elizabeth (Swank) Sawyer. She married Donald Douglas Brown on Nov. 24, 1951, at the Christian Church in Gillespie, and he survives. Lee was employed as a nurses aide/respiratory therapy aide at Community Memorial Hospital in Staunton for many years. Shana Kay Marshall, 62, of Staunton, Ill., died on Sunday, Aug. 20, 2023. She was born on Dec. 4, 1960, in Gallup, N.M., the daughter of Carl and Virginia (Creasy) Rodgers. Shana married Mark Marshall on July 5, 2004. He survives. Shana is a veteran of the United States Army. She worked at various places as an LPN in health care for 20 years. Shana was a member of the First Baptist Church of Gillespie. She enjoyed painting, making greeting cards, shopping, and dressing up. Dennis James Hilyard, 69, of Bunker Hill, Ill., died at his residence on Monday, Aug. 21, 2023. He was born Sept. 30, 1953, in Litchfield, to James Roy Hilyard and Margaret Ann "Peggy" Noel Hilyard. Charles "Charlie" Henry Bertels, 85, of East Alton, Ill., died Thursday, Aug. 24, 2023, at Alton Memorial Hospital in Alton. He was born Oct. 10, 1937, at home in Dorsey, to William D. and Minnie P.
