Thursday, Sept. 13, 1990-- SEWER PROJECT COULD BE COMPLETED IN NOVEMBER -- If all goes as planned the new sewer line and sewer lagoons under construction in Staunton could be completed by mid-November. City Engineer Deborah Ramsey said, "They should have most of the work done and the sewer should be in operation at that time." She said Bartellbort Company, which is building the new lagoon northwest of the school, expects to be done October 28. The Staunton Senior Citizen meeting on Aug. 18 was called to order by President Gerry Cook. There were 31 members in attendance who said the Lord’s Prayer and the Pledge of Allegiance. There were three visitors of which two became new members. There were no card or prayer requests. Broc Best had his personal best round at Timber Lakes on Monday, Aug. 15, sinking 3 birdies and leading the Staunton team to a 166 - 211 win over Gillespie. Broc was match medalist with his round of 34 on the par 36 course. Other Staunton team scores were by Preston Denney 38, Adam Overby 46 and Blake Moore 48. Also playing, Luke DeWitt and Jack Gagnon each scored a 49, Bryce Coalson and Luke Meyer. Bryon Jubelt was team medalist for Gillespie with his round of 47. It was another beautiful day for golfing for the Staunton Country Club Women's Thursday League. We are loving this cooler weather. The team of Bev Kramer, Martha Riley and Kathryn Young had a good game. The low gross was 40; they had low putts of 10 and a chip-in on #6. The low net was the team of Gloria Paolino and Rosemarie Pickerill. Golf continues to start at 9 a.m. Flag Day is scheduled for Sept. 15; and should it rain, we will hold it on the 22nd. The Litchfield boys golf team won the match played Aug. 19 at Timber Lakes with a team score of 149. Staunton finished 2nd with 156 followed by Auburn 182, Gillespie 190, and Mt. Olive 212. Preston Denney of Staunton was match medalist with a 2-under 34 on the par 36 course. Staunton’s other team scores were Broc Best 39, Adam Overby 41, and Bryce Coalson 42. The SHS girls hosted a golf match at Timber Lakes on Tuesday, Aug. 16. The Hillsboro girls won this match with a team score of 241 followed by Vandalia with 267. Alex Frailey of Hillsboro was the match medalist with her round of 46 on the par 36 course. Abby Tate was Vandalia team medalist with a 65. Southern Illinois University Edwardsville was filled with new, smiling faces as first-year students began moving into their residence halls on Wednesday, Aug. 17. Lewis and Clark Community College announced its list of scholarship recipients for the 2022-2023 academic year, and it’s the biggest group to date. Of more than 400 applicants from throughout the college’s district this year, 155 students accepted awards for the academic year which began Monday, Aug. 22.
