The 2022 version of Staunton Ribfest will be held this Saturday, Aug. 27, at Staunton Recreation Park (Firemen’s Park). All cookers as well as all judges participating in the Ribfest must be members of the STL BBQ Society. Larry Eugene Altermott, 74, of Benld, Ill., died at John Cochran VA Medical Center, St. Louis, Mo., on Tuesday, Aug. 16, 2022. He was born Jan. 3, 1948, in Alton to Joseph "Buck" and Betty Marie (Baldridge) Altermott. He married Carla Altermott on Sept. 2, 1972, in Alton. She survives. He was a veteran of the U.S. Marines who served during Vietnam. He was a police officer for the Madison County Sheriff's Department, Shipman, Mt. Denise Durr, 64, of Dorchester, Ill., died at her home on Sunday Aug. 14, 2022. She was born on Dec. 22, 1959. Denise spent time working on grants and donations for communities such as the Summerfield Park and arranging poker runs and fundraisers for various motorcycle clubs and causes. In recent years, she developed a deep appreciation for the outdoors and Lake Gillespie and had a cabin there. She was raised Catholic and practiced her faith through various acts of service. Mary V. Bartulis, 93, of Benld, Ill., died peacefully on Monday, Aug. 15, 2022. Mary was born on July 17, 1929, to Edward and Viola Klocke of Gillespie. She married August C. “Junie” Bartulis on July 12, 1952, and he preceded her in death. Mary was a kind, loving woman who enjoyed being with her family and friends and never turned down the opportunity to dance. Jason "Meathead" Andrew Collins, 45, of Collinsville, Ill., died on Wednesday, Aug. 17, 2022, at SSM St. Clair Hospital in Fenton, Mo., with his wife by his side. Jason, the son of Floyd Ralph Collins and Claudia Dianne (Lewis) Collins, was born on May 25, 1977, in Sierra Vista, Ariz. He married Alexandra Booth in Litchfield on July 9, 2016. Renata Hamilton, 79, of Bunker Hill, Ill., died at Heritage Health of Staunton on Sunday, Aug. 14, 2022. She was born March 9, 1943, in Germany. She married Jerry Ray Hamilton. He preceded her in death in 2009. She was an inspector for an automotive parts manufacturer. Renata was a member of the Bunker Hill Senior Citizens. Thelma Marie "Poodle" Roberts, 93, of Bunker Hill, Ill., died at Robings Manor in Brighton on Saturday, Aug. 20, surrounded by her loving family. She was born March 9, 1929, in Liberty, Ky., to Logan and Eva Atwood Pettyjohn. She married Fred J. Roberts on March 5, 1949, in Bunker Hill. Kenneth Kunz, 97, formerly of New Douglas, Ill., died peacefully in his sleep on Tuesday, Aug. 16, 2022, at Aspen Creek of Troy Nursing Care in Troy. Rose Anne Rubis, 94, of Bunker Hill, Ill., died Sunday, Aug. 14, 2022, at St. Francis Hospital in Litchfield after a lengthy illness. Born on July 7, 1928, in Alton, she was the daughter of Pete and Louisa (Zarantonello) Manar. She married Bruno Rubis on July 8, 1967, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Alton. Doyle A. Heim, 87, of Staunton, Ill., died Friday, Aug. 19, 2022, at his residence. Doyle was born on Aug. 9, 1935, in Livingston, the son of Kenneth and Hilda (Meyer) Heim. He married Jo Ann Healey on Sept. 15, 1956, at the E & R Church in Staunton. She survives. He attended the United Church of God in St. Jacob, where he served as a church deacon. Louis Johnson Sawyer, 92, of Collinsville, Ill., died at Gateway Regional Medical Center in Granite City on Tuesday, Aug. 16, 2022. He was born April 30, 1930, in Gillespie to George and Santina (Baggio) Sawyer. He married Betty Vasel on Dec. 19, 1957, in Litchfield. She survives. He was a foreman for McDonnell Douglas. Ronald R. Jackson, 63, died July 23, 2022. Born Oct. 13, 1958, he was a son of the late Raymond and Irene Jackson of Williamson. He was a graduate of Livingston High School. He had worked at Kemp Vesper’s gas station in Staunton during high school. Later he worked at Monterey Coal Company in Carlinville.
