Some pets also experience depression, with similar symptoms of social withdrawal, lethargy, loss of interest in food or activities, and more. Some animals are predisposed to mental health conditions. By: Jill Pertler When my kids were little, they often came to me with “what ifs.” What if the school bus starts to fly? What if we ate dessert first? What if God never invented rabbits? Or ice cream? Or trees? Or bikes? Or the rain? What if my hair turned into spaghetti noodles? What if all the grass turned purple? What if broccoli tasted like candy and candy tasted like broccoli? What if the person we see in the mirror isn’t the same as the person everyone else sees? Attending to these what ifs often proved difficult because they were, for t...
By Christian Hasselberg Registration started at 7 a.m. and all was well. We had a large group from Staunton and the Boeing Bike Club! We set about things as normal until we realized that some of our numbers were missing a barcode. Fleet feet jumped in a solved that problem for us. At the last second, we had the Star Spangled Banner right on time! The race was off! The start was largely ceremonial and uneventful. We hit Reservoir Road and the racing commenced. Things got gnarly very quickly when a turtle crossed the road! With terrible timing,...

Dear Star-Times, I was surprised to see so few spectators watching the Tour De Donut this year. I can remember seeing people lining the streets from St. Michael's Church and Bill’s IGA to the turnoff at Sullivan’s. I was one of maybe 50 spectators this year. Many bike riders still talk about how nice and motivating it was to ride with all the spectators and the Rib Fest contestants cheering you on. I’m not sure why the Rib Fest was moved to a different day and location. I would like to suggest to the different committees in charge of these...
When the Black Pumas made their self-titled debut in 2019,the Austin, Texas duo set off a reaction almost as combustible and rapturous as their music itself. The Black Pumas', Capitol Cuts (Live From Capitol Studio A), album, along with earning a career total of seven Grammy Award nominations, singer/songwriter Eric Burton and guitarist/producer Adrian Quesada achieved massive success as a live act and delivering a transcendent show Burton aptly refers to as "electric church."
