Don Louis Byrd, Jr., 57, of Gillespie, Ill., died at his residence on Thursday, June 30, 2022. He was born Sept. 30, 1964, in Red Bud, to Don Byrd and Virgie Mae Johnson Byrd. The first female medical graduate of Macoupin County managed to break new ground both in the county and outside its borders. The Staunton High School Bulldogs football team competed in Roxana against Granite City, Alton and Roxana in 7-on-7. An official score wasn't kept, but the Bulldogs heavily competed against much larger schools. Six touchdowns were scored by the Bulldogs with the defense giving up a similar amount. Businesses and individuals are invited to participate as a sponsor for the 4th Annual Tori Carroll Memorial 5K/1-Mile Fun Run. This event will be held at Staunton High School on Saturday, Aug. 20.
