Shirley M. Zanter, 91, of Chatham, Ill., died at Country Lane Memory Care in Riverton on Wednesday, June 7, 2023. She was born Sept. 21, 1931, in Gillespie, to Charles and Rose (Rolando) Parrish. She married Eugene "Hack" Zanter on Oct. 25, 1952, in Gillespie. He preceded her in death on March 24, 1974. She was the bookkeeper for Little Dog Coal Mine, Prairie Farms and Peoples State Bank. Lonnie W. Patton, 74, of Bunker Hill, Ill., died at Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, Mo., on Tuesday, June 6, 2023. He was born Jan. 16, 1949, in Bloomfield, Mo., to Charles A. and Helen M. (Layton) Patton. He married Vicki Boner, and she survives. He was a backtender for Jefferson Smurfitt and worked in maintenance at SIUE. Howard A. Reising, 70, of Hamel, Ill., died Tuesday, June 6, 2023, at Memorial Hospital East in Shiloh. He was born on May 22, 1953, in Staunton, the son of Herman and Anna (Rode) Reising. Howard grew up two miles east of Hamel on Hoxey Road and has lived in Hamel most of his life. In 1990 he and Keith Behrhorst purchased Hamel Concrete Products, later started a tire business and phased out the concrete business. They sold the business in 2015, to retire. Milda E Bussmann, 98, of Gillespie, Ill., died at Heritage Health of Gillespie on June 8, 2023. She was born May 30, 1925, in Midway, to August and Freida (Stoecker) Roessel. She married Harold G. Bussmann on Sept. 20, 1947. He preceded her in death on June 6, 1995. She was a farmer's wife. She operated Bussmann Turkey Farm along with her husband, Harold. Richard J. Mitchell, 81, of Gillespie, Ill., died at his residence on Thursday, June 8, 2023. He was born May 6, 1942, in St. Louis, Mo., to Joseph and Mary Juanita (Webb) Mitchell. He married Jo Ann Poivey on Jan. 20, 1962, in Gillespie. She preceded him in death on May 30, 2020. He was a retired pipefitter for Shell Refinery. Kenneth Scott Snyder "Kenny, Kennyballs," 53, of Springfield, Ill., died peacefully Wednesday, June 7, 2023, surrounded by his family. Kenny was born Sept. 29, 1969, in Springfield at St. John's Hospital to Marlin Sr. and Darlene (Kunze) Snyder. Kenneth J. Heigert, 65, of Staunton, Ill., died at his residence on Sunday, June 11, 2023. He was born on June 13, 1957, in Staunton, to Elmer and Doris (Jardin) Heigert. He married Linda Turner on Oct. 10, 1992, and she survives. Ken, a life-long Staunton resident, was formerly a heavy equipment mechanic at Fairmount Race Track and was a hobby farmer. Joseph Bradford "Brad" Bahn, 71, died on May 20, 2023, at Gilbert Mercy Hospital in Gilbert, Ariz. Born in St. Louis, Mo., on Feb. 9, 1952, and raised in Staunton, Ill., he was the son of the late Joseph and Sharon Bahn. Brad attended St Michael's Parochial School and Staunton High School. He graduated in 1970. He was very proud of setting and maintaining the Bulldogs basketball scoring record of 980 points. The family moved to Arizona in 1972.
