  • Pancake breakfast at Boy Scout shed this Saturday

    There will be a pancake breakfast at the Boy Scout shed, 121 N. Elm, in Staunton this Saturday, June 11. They will be serving pancakes, sausage, orange juice, milk and coffee. Cost for the breakfast is $7. Breakfasts will be served to go. There is limited seating. Serving begins at 7 a.m. and will continue until 10 a.m. or until supplies are sold out.     A two-vehicle crash at Illinois Route 16 at County Line Road in Macoupin County resulted in a fatality on Tuesday, May 31, at 4:23 p.m. The Illinois State Police's investigation revealed that Grace L. Keeton, age 23, from Litchfield was alone in her 2013 maroon Ford Fusion when she ran into the rear of a Red Ram RTS coach bus driven by Steven A.     Macoupin County Treasurer Roger Anderson states that the 2021 real estate tax bills will be mailed June 10. Approxi- mately 38,000 tax bills are being prepared for mailing. The first installment is due Monday, July 11, and the sec- ond installment is due Friday, Sept. 16. Penalties will be charged after the due dates.     According to the CDC, 19 Illinois counties are now rated at High Community Level for COVID-19,.     Calvin F. "Sonny" Penrod, 85, of New Douglas, Ill., died Monday, May 30, 2022, at the University Care Center in Edwardsville. He was born on June 25, 1936, in Granite City, one of eight children born to Calvin and Julia (Henry) Penrod. He was first married to Betty Lou Mitchell on April 3, 1957. They had five daughters and a son. He later married Alma L. Mueller on March 15, 1986, at the United Church of Christ in Mascoutah. She survives.
