On Saturday, May 27, Doug Behme Foundation hosted their 5th annual Run/Walk in Remembrance 5K and Rev It Up In Remembrance Car Show in Worden. The events are held annually in remembrance of loved ones who have passed away and to enable the Foundation to provide assistance and opportunities to those who have been affected by burn injuries, as well as to their children and their families. The Gillespie Public Library has added to its permanent collection a series of Sanborn maps. Sanborn Map Company created maps of U.S. cities in the 19th and 20th century to allow fire insurance companies to access their total liability in U.S. cities. The maps take sections of the city and code them into different types of structures. Some blocks are quite detailed, especially the downtown areas. John William Ernst, 92, of Alhambra, Ill., died on Wednesday, May 31, 2023, at the Hitz Memorial Home in Alhambra. He was born on March 12, 1931, in New Douglas. He was the son of Albert G. Sr. and Tillie (Boehme) Ernst. He married Juanita Clotfelter on Aug. 16, 1953, at the First Baptist Church in Litchfield. She preceded him in death on July 27, 2021. David Allen Zimmerman, 54, of Bunker Hill, Ill., died at Anderson Hospital in Maryville on Thursday, June 1, 2023. He was born Jan. 31, 1969, in Alton, to Duane and Joan (Burt) Zimmerman. Terry L. Simpson, 61, of Gillespie, Ill., died on May 28, 2023, in Montgomery, Ala., while on vacation with his wife, Denise. He and his twin brother were gifted at birth on Sept. 23, 1961, in Waverly, Tenn., to Truman and Frances (Lampley) Simpson and was preceded in death by them as well as their biological mother, Imogene Thomas Etheridge.
