Carlinville Police were called at 7:11 a.m. Saturday to the 1100 block of Sumner Street. Monteaz Walton, 40, was found in the road lying in a puddle in a fetal-like position on his side. Officers started life-saving measures until Carlinville Fire Protection District and Gillespie Benld Area Ambulance Service members arrived. The Macoupin County coroner was called and pronounced Walton dead at the scene. An autopsy performed on Saturday determined Walton had died from injuries suffered when he was hit by a vehicle. On May 19, the Staunton Senior Citizens celebrated Mother’s/Father’s Day with a catered meal beginning with everyone saying the Lord’s Prayer and Pledge of Allegiance. After the meal, president Gerry Cook brought the meeting to order. Ruby Hering was the birthday girl for the month of May and we all sang happy birthday to her and she got a free bingo card. The wording was a little confusing for the scholarship given by the Oehler family and the American Legion Post 362 during Staunton High School graduation and printed in the May 18 issue of the Star-Times. The Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) on Friday announced that it supports the recommendation by the CDC of the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 booster dose for children aged 5 to 11 years old. The Staunton boys track team competed at the 1A TRB Sectional meet at Virden on Wednesday, May 18. The Staunton High School Lady Bulldog softball team extended their season by defeating Greenville 6-0 on Friday, May 20, at Vandalia. The Lady Bulldogs put together 13 hits including a 2-run homer by Savannah Billings.
