    During the height of winter in 2023, the City of Staunton experienced some devasting stormy weather. Not only were power lines down but numerous residences also experienced flooding at a capacity that was almost past the point of no return. Although the Star-Times fortunately, did not flood during this time period, the office building took a decent amount of residual damage from the surrounding buildings during a couple torential storms that occurred back in 2023.     On Friday, Feb. 16, Congresswoman Nikki Budzinski (IL-13)announced that ten small businesses in Madison and Macoupin counties will be receiving more than $1.8 million in Rural Energy for America Program (REAP) grant funding from the U.S. Department of Agriculture. These funds will go directly to energy efficiency upgrades that will lower energy bills for recipients. Many of the awards allow for the buildout of new solar arrays.     Macoupin State’s Attorney Jordan Garrison announced today a former Girard man has been sentenced to seven and a half years in the Illinois Department of Corrections for a burglary in Girard. Troy A. Jones, 35, was born on Oct. 7, 1988, pleaded guilty to residential burglary in front of Judge April G. Troemper who handed down the sentence.
