In the beginning of April, Spanish Three and Four took a field trip to St. Louis to see a cultural show that included live music, traditional dances, and history of the origins of the dances. Illinois youth turkey hunters harvested a preliminary total of 2,006 birds during the 2024 youth turkey season, breaking the previous harvest record of 1,733 set in 2020. The dates for this year’s season were March 30 through March 31 and April 6 through April 7. A total of 6,001 youth turkey permits were issued this year, compared to 5,283 in 2023. SHS's FCA is hosting a Three-Mile and One-Mile fun run on Saturday, April 27, 2024 at the soccer fields with check-in beginning at 9 a.m. This event is free and open to all ages from children to adults. Class of 1952 Basketball (Boys) The 1951-52 basketball season is considered one of the best in school history, as the squad finished with an outstanding 23-4 record, including 7-1 in the South Central Conference. The 7-1 mark in the SCC was good for a league title for the first time in seventeen years, and the group also captured the championship at Macoupin County Tournament that same season.
