On Friday, March 25, Drake Dufrain placed 13th overall in the 60M high hurdles at the Illinois Top Times Indoor Championship in Bloomington with a new SHS indoor record of 9.31 seconds. He was the first athlete from Staunton ever to qualify for the hurdles at the Top Times meet. Also on Friday, Staunton had competitors in the Triad Distance Carnival. The Staunton Board of Education spotlighted the Staunton Junior High girls' volleyball teams. Both the 7th grade and 8th grade teams had outstanding seasons and advanced to the IESA State Tournament. Turner Frazell participated in the ILMEA All-State Choir in Peoria this year on Jan. 29. Many students from school districts throughout the state of Illinois participated in ILMEA All-District auditions in October. After a year of social distancing, Bremer Sanctuary is once again hosting a variety of programs and specialty events for children, families, and the public. First up is the annual spring bird walk on April 2. The beginning of spring means we are nearing the end of winter. It’s time to move on from snow, ice, and very cold temperatures. As I look back on it now, February alone felt like one big snow storm.
