    Zion Lutheran School hosted the 41st annual C-Team Shootout last month. The boys teams playing in the tournament included Zion Lutheran of Belleville, Good Shepherd of Collinsville, Trinity Lutheran of Edwardsville, Trinity-St. John of Nashville/Okawville, Immanuel Lutheran and Staunton Zion.     The Lady Bulldogs hosted the Maryville Christian Lions at the Staunton City Soccer Complex at 4:30 p.m. on Monday, March 13, to kick off their 2023 season. This season the Bulldogs will field a team of six seniors, five juniors, five sophomores, and eight freshmen. Senior goalie, Valeria Cazares will anchor the defense as she returns to goal.     The Staunton track team competed at the Jersey Indoor Winter Thaw meet held Saturday, March 11, at Principia College Grafton Center. Twenty-five teams competed in the men's division and 22 teams in the girls' division. Mascoutah won first place in both divisions. The Staunton men won 8.5 team points. Trace Trettenero placed 6th in the 60-meter dash prelims and then improved his time to take 5th in the 60-meter dash finals.     On Tuesday, March 21, the Highland Bulldogs girls soccer team will journey to the Staunton Soccer Complex and face the Staunton Bulldogs. This match will be the first annual fixture kicking off the Battle of the Bulldogs competition.     SHS seniors pursuing careers in either the medical or engineering fields are invited to apply for one of two possible Academic Merit Scholarships for an amount up to $3,000 but no less than $500.
