The Staunton School District welcomes Bill Carpenter as interim junior high principal. He was hired during a special board of education meeting on Feb. 28. The Student Council at Staunton Junior High is hosting a food drive through Friday, March 11. Items have been assigned points and prizes will be awarded at the end of the food drive to the classes with the most points. Each grade level has been assigned specific items the food pantry has requested. Those items will be worth two points while everything else will be worth one point. Bill Dittmar, 66, of Worden, Ill., died Tuesday, March 1, 2022, at Christian Northeast Hospital in St. Louis, Mo. Wendall Clare Harness Sr., 86, of Seattle, Wash., died Dec. 22, 2021. He was born in Muskegon, Mich., on March 2, 1935, to Rev. George Harness and Clara (Thompson) Harness. As a toddler, Wendall’s family resettled in Staunton, Ill., where he lived until joining the U.S. Air Force at age 17.
