  • Recognized as Outstanding Teacher of the Year

    William Woods School of Education graduate Elizabeth Kasubke was recently recognized as an outstanding teacher in her field just two years into her career. Kasubke was selected by the Missouri Association of Colleges for Teacher Education (MACTE) as Missouri Outstanding Beginning Teacher. Kasubke is employed in the Fulton Public School and maintains close ties with the WWU School of Education.     President Gerri Cook called the March 2, 2023 meeting to order at 1 p.m. There were 28 members attending. The Lord's Prayer and Pledge of Allegiance were said. The minutes and treasurer's reports for the February meetings were read and approved after an error on February birthday people was brought to attention.   • Hiltop Coin Show to be held in Gillespie

    The 58th annual Hiltop Coin Club coin show will be held Sunday, March 19, at the Gillespie Civic Center from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Admission is free and open to the public. The show is south central Illinois’ largest coin show with over 50 dealer tables, buying, selling and trading U.S., world coins, currency, gold and silver, U.S. eagles and bullion. Attendees may bring coins, medals or tokens to be identified and appraised by the dealers at the show. There will be a free door prize drawing every hour. Lunch items will be available for purchase.     Mark your calendars for the Staunton Sportsman's Club Kids' Fishing Derby on May 21. This derby is open to all kids pre-K through 8th grade. Only live bait is allowed. The club is looking for sponsorships for T-shirts, trophies, prizes or any monetary donations. T-shirt sponsors are limited to 12 spots and they fill fast.     The Staunton 7th grade girls won their regional on March 1. In bracket play, they earned a bye, beat Greenville, and then won the championship game against East Alton Middle School.     U.S. Air Force Airman Drake A. DuFrain graduated from basic military training at JBSA-Lackland AFB in San Antonio, Texas, on Feb. 23, 2023. Airman DuFrain was a member of the 331st Squadron, Band Flight 168 and achieved PT excellence status. The airman completed an intensive, eight-week program that included training in military discipline, Air Force core values, physical fitness, and basic warfare principles and skills.     On Tuesday, March 14, at 7 p.m., Zion will host an open house for both preschool and kindergarten for the 2023-2024 school year. This open house is an opportunity for parents and children to meet the teacher and tour Zion’s campus. Registration forms will be available at the open house.
