In the Shepherd’s psalm we return to the words again. “He restoreth my soul.” I recall a pastor friend telling me of a time when he felt the holy touch of God upon his life as he prayed these words. Thus, I am reminded of our great need to be made whole. The Old Testament Prophet Jeremiah dedicated his life to this thought of being restored. In fact, he was a man who never seemed to ever have his halo on straight, yet found the mercy of the almighty a thing to be cherished. It became for him a cause worth living for and worth dying for, too....

Pecans are tasty offerings that are ideal in both savory dishes and desserts. Like fruits of other members of the hickory genus of trees, pecans are not truly nuts, but drupes. A drupe is a fruit with a single stone or pit surrounded by a husk. With pecans, the outer husk dries out and splits open, exposing the "nuts" inside. Georgia, New Mexico and Texas are the leading domestic producers of pecans, but Mexico grows nearly half of the world's pecans. Pecans are heart-healthy and rich in...

If tomato-loving shoppers were tasked with sorting through each variety of tomato whenever they visited their local grocery store or farmers markets, then such trips could take a considerable amount of time. That's because there are thousands of varieties of tomato. There are at least 10,000 unique tomato varieties across the globe. Flavor could have a lot to do with that, as tomatoes are popular ingredients in dishes spanning the globe. Individuals who want their tomatoes to pack the most healthy punch possible may want to cook them in olive...

* "Snow will better slide off a shovel that has been sprayed with furniture polish." -- T.L. in Minnesota * Here's an old tip, but a good one: Before going away on vacation, put a couple of ice cubes in a plastic baggie, and set it at the front of the freezer. If the bag is one big, flat cube, you lost power long enough to suspect all your refrigerator items of being spoiled. * To temporarily get a winter frost effect on a window, use this...
