Staunton VFW Post 1241 will begin having their Friday fish fries this week, Feb. 24, and they plan to have them every Friday throughout lent. Stop by and enjoy a sandwich or a meal. Eat-in or carryout is available....
St. Peter’s Lutheran School is holding a trivia and auction night this Friday, Feb. 24. You do not need reservations. Just come and register at the door of the school located at 7182 Renken Road in Prairietown. Doors open at 6:15 p.m. and trivia starts at 7 p.m. There will be cash prizes for first place along with free soda and popcorn for everyone. There is a $10 per person entry fee and a limit of 10 players per table. In addition to the trivia competition, there will be silent auction items available for bidding fun....

On Saturday, Feb. 18, the Staunton High School Scholastic Bowl participated in the Masonic Lodge Tournament held at Southwestern HIgh School. The Staunton team was sponsored by Staunton Masonic Lodge #177. The Staunton team finished in fourth place, and each player was given a medal. The team was awarded a plaque and $100. The winners at the For the Love of Education trivia night on Saturday, Feb. 4, were: 1st place: Rich Stillwell team; 2nd place: Carol Miller team; and 3rd place Kimberly Rossini team. They were among the 21 tables which packed the Gillespie Civic Center for the annual and only fundraiser for The Partnership for Educational Excellence in Community Unit School District 7. On Saturday, Feb. 11, the Staunton High School Scholastic Bowl team participated in the Lincoln Railer Rumble Scholastic Bowl Tournament held in Lincoln. There were 22 teams that participated in the tournament. The Staunton team had four wins and four losses. Max Eldred was named to the All-Star Team for the tournament with the sixth greatest number of tossups. Max answered 51 toss up questions correctly at the tournament....
Zach Bozarth of Worden was named to the Dean's List for the fall semester of the 2022-23 academic year at Illinois Wesleyan University in Bloomington. On Thursday, Feb. 9, two Staunton High School teams participated in the Olympiad competition sponsored by the Regional Office of Education. There were 30 teams that participated in the high school event. The competition was held in Brighton and included logic, construction, math, science and estimation problems.
