The Staunton PTO School of Rock fund- raiser, which was hosted last Saturday, Feb. 11, at Concordia Hall, raised around $5,000. The money raised will directly benefit the students in a multitude of ways including field trips, reward incentives, classroom funding, and playground improvements, just to name a few. Mark W. Leckrone, 73, of Edwardsville, formerly of Staunton, died on Monday, Feb. 13, 2023, with his family by his side. Mark was born on March 17, 1949, in Alton, to William E. and Shirley M. (Luckert) Leckrone. On Nov. 26, 1971, in Belleville, he married Linda S. Wise, who survives. Mark grew up the son of a Methodist pastor, moving from Thompson, to Pocahontas, to Caseyville, where he met Linda. Sandra J. Salvati, 81, died Thursday, Feb. 16, 2023, at her daughter's home in Staunton, Ill. She was born in Radford, Va., on May 18, 1941, to John Lewis Roop and Hattie Louise (Simpson) Roop. She married Richard S. Salvati on June 10, 1971, in Washington, N.J., and he preceded her in death on Aug. 11, 2007. Mrs. Salvati was a homemaker and a retired babysitter. Betty J. Sauerwein, 78, of Plainview, Ill., died at Heritage Health of Gillespie on Thursday, Feb. 16, 2023. She was born Oct. 17, 1944, in Alton, to J.W. Gregory and Velda Manahan Gregory. Thursday, July 3, 1975 -- Injured in Tractor Mishap -- Charles Hooks, 17, of Staunton was injured Wednesday, June 25, when the tractor he was driving on his father's farm turned over, pinning him under the fender. Sheriff's deputies, Staunton Police and the Benld Rescue Squad were called to the scene, however, construction crew members working on the Bunker Hill Road near the farm released Hooks from under the tractor before the Rescue Squad arrived. David Buck, Jr., age 39, of Medora, was sentenced last week in Macoupin County by the Honorable Joshua A. Meyer to 66 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections for the first degree murder of Rachel Warren of Chesterfield. Buck was found guilty by a jury in January of 2023. At the sentencing hearing, evidence was given as to the defendant’s criminal history showing Buck had been previously convicted of seven felonies, mostly out of the State of Texas.
