On Saturday, Jan. 8, the Staunton Scholastic Bowl team participated in the IHSSBCA Scholastic Bowl Turnabout Tournament held in Granite City. Teams participating in the Turnabout Tournament included Granite City, Alton, Althoff Catholic, Greenville and Staunton. Blake Moore and Carson Buffington were recognized as All Tournament. Tuetken & Legendre on All-Star Team The Staunton High School basketball Lady Bulldogs proved why they were ranked #1 at the Macoupin County Tournament by winning it all. As a #1 seed, the Lady Bulldogs received a first round bye. On Tuesday, Jan. 18, the Lady Bulldogs played the winner of Monday's game between North Mac and Piasa Southwestern. Jan. 10 - 21 The Staunton JHS Terriers recently wrapped up regular season play. After having games against Mt. Olive and Gillespie canceled due to COVID concerns, the 7th grade finished its season on Friday, Jan. 14, at Calhoun. Both teams came into the game undefeated, and Staunton was able to keep its record spotless (21-0) with a 42-32 victory. Isiah Laux and Luke Moore each pumped in 16 points to lead all scorers.
