  • Terriers win Greenville Tournament

    The Terrier 8th grade basketball team traveled to Greenville last week to play in the 74th Annual James Burke Memorial Tournament. The program was looking to win its first game at the event since joining the field four years ago. Not only did the Terriers win a game, but they went 3-0 on the week to capture the title.     In their first game at the Macoupin County Tournament, the Staunton Bulldogs defeated Carlinville (58-40) on Jan. 16. This win advanced the Bulldogs to play Southwestern on Wednesday, Jan. 18. Southwestern defeated the Bulldogs (47-28). The win advanced Southwestern to the championship game vs. North Mac at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 20.     The Jan. 19 meeting started at 1 p.m. with the president Gerry Cook bringing the meeting to order. There were 29 members attending. The Lord's Prayer and Pledge of Allegiance were said. The attendance prizes were won by Doris Thomas and Mary Lyons. Members sang Happy Birthday to the five members whose birthdays are in January.     Happy New Year from the Staunton Lions Club. We would like to take this opportunity to thank our generous community for contributing in some form or fashion to our Secret Santa program, which was held Saturday, Dec. 17. Again this year we had an abundance of monetary as well as toy donations. With all the monetary donations we were able to provide approximately 50 families with food certificates to be used at Bill's IGA and 133 children were able to wake up Christmas morning and open gifts.
