The 2022 Senior Homestead Exemption (yellow cards) will soon be mailed to senior citizens in Olive Township (Madison County). Those seniors who own the home in which they reside and who have a total household yearly income of less than $65,000, are also...
Last summer, as I drove along Route 4, I ran into a heavy rain. I could see in the distance where the skies were clear and the sun was shining. While it was raining hard on me, thank God, others were still in the sunshine. How true this is for our lifetimes. There are those dark cloud hours when the rains pour heavy, and there are those beautiful days when light is flowing everywhere. In the storms which suddenly appear, our focus should be set on the place in the distance where all is well. Throughout our journey as we travel we can travel...

January 2022 - It is coming in like a polar bear! There might even be a chance for some snow as I write this article the first week of the year. As the weather turns colder, there is nothing better than a nice warm blanket, a cup of hot tea and a good book in your favorite comfortable chair. This is where the Staunton Public Library comes in. Another year brings more opportunities for great books to hit the market. Each month we order some of the hottest and best loved authors plus a few new ones that pique our interest. Last month we ordered...

They’ve hidden 12 painted snowflakes with an accompanying Bremer fun fact sign throughout the sanctuary. They will start you off with a hint, no snowflakes are located on the West Creek Trail (as it is not listed on the trail map yet) or the extended loop of the Bluebi...
This week's photo was taken at the Staunton railroad station in October of 1917. World War I began in July of 1914 and ended in 1918. The size of this crowd leads us to believe they were waiting for a troop train and had gathered there to give their men a hero's welcome home from the war or were waiting to send off recruits. Photos needed for Looking Back The Star-Times would like to share your old photographs with our readers. We are looking for local landmarks, events, organizations or groups...

By: Jill Pertler Quite often, each morning before getting dressed I check my weather app to get the prediction for the upcoming day. Yesterday I caught myself hoping the sun would be shining and the skies blue. Then it dawned on me. There wasn’t a question whether the sun would be shining. Likewise for the blueness of the skies. Both were an undeniable “yes.” In that moment, I realized something obvious and important: the sun always shines. The sky is always blue. Every day, without a doubt, 365 days a year. Each day of my life – since the beg...

While wanting to see positive changes in your life isn't a bad idea, the way most New Year's resolutions come together is usually complicated, often helps little and may even be harmful. Most of us are pretty bad at setting reasonable goals for ourselves. We usually think in terms of absolutes: "I'm going to lose 20 pounds next month." "I'm going to stop smoking now." "I'm going to get that job promotion this quarter." There are several problems with resolutions like these, the main one being that they seldom achieve success. Such resolutions...
