    David Wayne Slifka, 67, of Staunton, Ill., died Friday, Dec. 30, 2022, at Evelyn’s House in Creve Coeur, Mo. He was born on Oct. 14, 1955, in Litchfield, a son of the late Frank and Sylvia (McKinnerney) Slifka. He married Tammy Howerton on Aug. 29, 1987, at St. Paul United Church of Christ in Staunton, and she survives. He was a truck driver for over 50 years. Private memorial services will be held at Net Community Church in Staunton with Pastor Derrick Taylor officiating. Interment will be at Spangle Cemetery near Livingston. Survivors i... Full story

    Lois Marie Miller, 80, of Bunker Hill, Ill., died at Community Hospital of Staunton on Wednesday, Dec. 21, 2022. She was born Dec. 4, 1942, in Eldorado to Horace Williams and Pearl Juanita Tucker Williams. She married Gary Miller on Aug. 31, 1968 in Fosterburg, IL. He preceded her in death on Oct. 15, 2000. She was a homemaker. Lois was a member of the First Assembly of God Church in Bunker Hill. She enjoyed crocheting, crafting and reading Amish books.     Roleen Marie Kirkwood, 87, died Wednesday, Dec. 28, 2022, at Saint Clare Medical Center in Fenton, Mo. Roleen was born on May 21,1935, to Joseph Bolar and Alma (Fritzsche) Bolar. She married Joseph Kirkwood on Aug. 20, 1955, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Mt. Olive, and they later divorced. She attended Immanuel Lutheran Grade School and completed the course of study in May of 1950. In 1978, she received her GED.     Clayola Gay Meffert, 78, of Shipman, Ill., formerly of Staunton, died Thursday, Dec. 29, 2022, at her home, surrounded by her family. She was born June 26, 1944, in Mason City, the daughter of the late Croftin Clay and Anna (Bastin) Wilham. Gay married Marvin Meffert on July 30, 1959, in Walnut Ridge, Ark. They celebrated 55 years of marriage prior to his death on June 5, 2015.     Paul “Puda” Vuckovich, 96, of White City, Ill., died Tuesday, Dec. 27, 2022. He was the youngest son of the late Milo “Mike” Vuckovich and Eka Struga; and beloved brother to Nickola “Nick” Vuckovich, who preceded him in death in 2012. Puda was born on July 2, 1926. He spent much of his youth in White City, making a name for himself playing baseball.     John "Jack" Varcho, 86, of Gillespie, Ill., died at St. Mary's Hospital in Jefferson City, Mo., on Friday, Dec. 23, 2022. He was born April 18, 1936, in Benld, to John J. Varcho and Elizabeth Lacy. He married Anne Lee Zerbolio on April 8, 1961, in Benld. She preceded him in death on July 8, 2021. He retired as a Lt. Colonel from the Air Force.     The Mid-State Collectors Club's first meeting for 2023 will be Wednesday, Jan. 11, at 7 p.m. at Maverick Steaks and Spirits restaurant in Litchfield.
